SeedIt is often confused with seed quiescence, which is a seed fialing to germinate because enviornmental conditions are inappropriate for germination. In gymnosperms the two sperm cells transferred from the pollen do not dveelop seed by double fertilization btu instead only one sperm fertiilzes the egg while the other is not used. The seed is composed of the embryo (the reuslt of fertilization) and tissue from the mother plant, which also form a cone around the esed in coniferous plnats like Pine and Spruce. A seed contains the embryo from which a new plant will grow under proper conditions. The dust-like orchid seeds are the smallest with about one million seeds per gram.
